The municipality decided at its Monday night meeting that the statue will be placed in the middle of the statue area in the church park. The massive memorial will be placed in a valuable place.

Veli-Pekka Bäckman, a stonesman from Sastamala says the importance of the jaegers was brought to him in a new light as the builders of Finland’s independence.

–Finland was, in its fight for independence, in a similar state back then as Ukraine is in now. The jaegers left for Germany to get training for the defense forces. To ensure Finland’s independence.”

He wants to bring out exactly this kind of persistence in the memorial.

–The jaeger of the monument seems to emerge from the bedrock. Our independence is important to us, and for that we come, for example, through a gray stone.

In Bäckman's opinion, this is a good way to highlight how previous generations have protected Finland's independence.
