The welfare area born early last year also started the youth council of the welfare area, SataNuva. In the youth council, each municipality has a representative, a 13-20-year-old adolescent.
The representative of Huittinen, Liina Laine, admits she was the only one in the youth council of Huittinen interested in the provincial title.
–It doesn’t mean I went to SataNuva reluctantly. Sure, meeting a group of new people made me nervous, but at the same time I was excited, she says.
The youth council of the welfare area is chosen for the duration of one year at a time. So, the first term of office is being packed up.
Laine says that the first year which consisted of five meetings flew by. Topics ranging from free birth control to the results of the school health survey have been on the agenda.
Liina says that the youth council of Huittinen has good influence in Huittinen.
–In the welfare area youth council, we’ve been asked to give our opinion on things many times, but the influence possibilities don’t seem as wide as on the local level.
–The meetings have also been a lot more formal than the ones in Huittinen and the topics are more important as a whole. It’s understandable, considering that the decisions we make influence every municipality in Satakunta.
Liina Laine is not sure if she will continue in the welfare area youth council the upcoming season.
–The year has been fun, and I’ve learnt a lot, but I wouldn’t mind if someone else wanted to go this year.
If someone other than her takes the spot as a representative of Huittinen, she encourages them to take it for the experience.
–Everyone should know how these decisions are made. You will gain general knowledge and perspective to your own thinking, Laine says.
In the upcoming term of office, the goal of the youth council of the welfare area is to get the right of initiative in the regional council, to strive to promote the council's visibility and to further promote the voice of young people in the decision-making of the welfare area.
