Safkasankarit-club brings local food and delicacies from around the world near kids.

The upcoming 4H cooking club is paying a familiarization visit to the youth club where local 1st-6th graders can get to know the secrets of cooking.

We have had cooking clubs every year, but we have a brand-new theme for this one, Maria Kankaanranta, executive director of the Huittinen 4H association, reveals.

The club in question is Safkasankarit-club, where kids are introduced to food cultures from around the world. The theme this year is internationality and peace.

Now in the first unofficial meeting of Safkasankarit, apple-oat fry is being prepared. It is a treat from the harvest season that is easy to make and liked by nearly everyone.

Every kid does their part in the cooking process enthusiastically, but when the apple-oat fry goes in the oven it’s time for the kids to play.

–Teaching kids responsibility and cleaning as a part of cooking is the most important thing, says supervisor Emmiina Matintalo.

The materials for Safkasankarit club come as given, but the club owners and the children who attend the club can influence what is made in the club and what the club meetings consist of.

The idea of the club is to offer children taste tours while still remembering their own roots and the importance of local food.
